Artist's Description

Memorial statue for Miss Eliza Barnwell Heyward 1849 - 1871. Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston South Carolina.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

excerpt from the hymn 'Amazing Grace' written by John Newton, 1779
